P2.4 Respiratory syncytial virus immunisation

The Australian Immunisation Handbook recommends a single dose of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine in the following adult populations.

  1. Adults aged ≥75 years
  2. Adults aged ≥60 years who have medical risk condition that increase their risk of severe RSV disease (including chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD)
  3. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged ≥60 years

As of 2025, only eligible pregnant women are approved to receive the RSV vaccine for free on the NIP.
